Goals From Irvine Meadow Game

Unfortunately, Irvine made best use of the windy conditions and home advantage and got off to an ideal start with a couple of goals. We then lost a third just before  half time –  a breakaway and a smart finish by Irvine’s winger saw us fall further behind.

We had a  good chance just after the break when we hit the post. We had a lot more of the ball in the 2nd half and got into our passing game but just couldn’t find the net.

All the best to “The Medda” in the next round. We look forward to welcoming them to CG Park on 16 November when we meet again in the 4th round of the South of Scotland Challenge Cup.

Its The Scottish Cup!!

This Saturday we’re off to Ayrshire to take on Irvine Meadow XI in the 2nd round of The Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

The Strollers are in good form having won our last 4 games including a victories over a strong Broxburn Athletic in the league and away against Dalry Thistle another Ayrshire team in the 3rd round of the South Challenge Cup

Although The Medda are near the foot of the West of Scotland 1st Division they are on a very good run of cup and league results. No doubt they will be up for this important tie.

So fingers crossed for a good result on Saturday and another step closer to a showdown at Hampden with our North Edinburgh rivals Hibs!!

Well Done Marc and Callum (again)!

Congratulations to Captain Marc Laird who has been named in the Official Catchup Team of The Month. Marc has been outstanding in our recent run of games and thoroughly deserves  the recognition. Well done!

Further congratulations are also due to Callum Yeats. His fantastic goal against Cumbernauld Colts was shortlisted for goal of Round 1 of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup. We’re pleased to say that it has now been chosen as the winner!

Hot Shot Callum!!

We were all on our feet at Broadwood when Callum Yeats got the ball out on the right, cut inside and weaved past the mesmerised Cumbernauld defenders before despatching a peach of a curling shot into the far left top corner of the net!

We were not surprised when it was included in the Goal of the 2nd Round competition in The Scottish Gas Scotish Cup.

We were not surprised when it was chosen as the winner by @OfficialCatchup

Congratulations, Callum, a cracking goal!

What A Diver !

Usually, the only divers that we talk about at The Strollers are opposition players that seem to have trouble keeping their feet. However, Committee member Nazmi Okan was recently involved in a diving incident of a different kind!

His grand daughter Londyn needed major surgery and was admitted to the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital. Nazmi was so impressed with the care that she received and the dedication of the staff that he decided that he would do something to help them in return.

After discussion with his daughters Lara and Denize, it was agreed that if they were going to do a fund raiser, it should be something special like a sky dive!?Nazmi reluctantly agreed, and it was duly booked.

The guys turned up at Skydive StAndrews last Saturday.  There, they received their briefing and instructions before heading to the airplane. When they reached 10,000 ft, Nazmi was attached to his jump instructor, then dragged , sorry, helped from the airplane It only took a couple of minutes, and then he was back on solid ground. Nazmi said, ” It was great, I was quite anxious, but when the parachute was open, all fear was forgotten, and we drifted peacefully down.”

The upshot of Nazmi and the girls’ bravery is that the ECH is now better off to the tune of £3500!

Well done to the guys and all who sponsored them!

Josh Laing – Injury

Some disappointing news!

Unfortunately Josh sustained a shoulder injury during Tuesday night’s game away to Albion Rovers. After X Ray it turned out to be a broken collar bone!

Josh has been outstanding for us since joining on loan this season. He will be out for some time but everyone here at The Strollers will be supporting him.

Get fit again soon Josh!
